Reel Drag

Reel Drag Installation Since Dive Rite first began making reels over 15 years ago, we've been looking for a simple, yet reliable way to incorporate an adjustable drag mechanism. It appears we have finally found it.

The Dive Rite Reel Drag fits all late-model 4100- and 4300-series stainless reels (these are the ones that use a stainless "E" clip to keep the spool in place). The drag consists of a lightweight metal disk, attached to a low-friction axle bushing. The drag assembly replaces the nylon bushing that normally sits next to the reel frame.

Reel Drag Installed With the drag assembly in place, the nylon lock-down nut no longer protrudes between the spool ribs. Instead, it makes direct contact with the lightweight metal disk. By varying the tension on the lock-down screw, you vary the amount of drag. If you back the lock-down screw off to the point where it makes no contact with the disk, the spool will spin freely.

A further benefit of installing the new reel drag is that it now takes just a fraction of a turn to lock the spool firmly in place. This can be very helpful when working with reels in strong currents or other challenging conditions.

The reel drag can be added to current Dive Rite reels as an after-market upgrade, or ordered pre-installed on new reels.
