The downstream design of regulator second stages provides a fail-safe in case of first stage, high-pressure seat failure. If the HP seat fails, and intermediate pressures rises, the second stage merely begins to free flow.

This feature is not available to divers who use argon to inflate their dry suits. Argon regulators consist only of a first stage and a low-pressure inflation hose. There is no regulator second stage to provide relief should the high pressure seat fail.

Now Dive Rite provides a solution to this problem. It's a special argon regulator over pressure relief valve that provides the same fail-safe function as a normal regulator second stage.

The argon over pressure valve screws into any available first-stage low-pressure port and is set to 220 PSI.
