Looking to extend your bottom time? Then check out  our Dixie Divers PADI’s Enriched Air Diver program. To enter the program, you’ll need to be 15 or older, a PADI Open Water Diver (or equivalent).

The PADI Enriched Air Diver program emphasizes the theoretical and operational considerations involved with enriched air diving. Additionally, you'll get to go on to training dives during the program.

To find out how to make the most of your bottom time, stop by our  PADI Dive Center and tell us that you want to dive today!

Enriched Air, Nitrox is the latest tool in our efforts to stay underwater. When you think about it, diving’s technological evolution has been a struggle to do exactly that. At first we could only stay down as long as we could hold our breath, so we invented scuba. Now we could stay down, but we got cold, so we invented wet suits and dry suits. Being warm, we could stay until we ran out of no stop time, so we invented multilevel diving and dive computers. But, on repetitive dives and single level dives we still sometimes run out of no stop time, so now we have Nitrox.

Did you know that Dixie Divers was instrumental in making the use of Nitrox legal .  We made history in 1999, making it possible for instructors, dive guides and scuba divers to use Nitrox.  In Nitrox diving, a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen gases replaces compressed air as the breathing gas. The partial pressure of nitrogen (a gas that causes decompression sickness) in the gas mixture is lower than it is in compressed air, and that lower pressure allows the diver to remain longer at specified depths than conventional SCUBA divers who breathe compressed air at those depths, and to do so without increasing their risk of decompression sickness.

The agency (OSHA) says the changes to the standard allow these particular divers the opportunity to use Nitrox breathing gas under specified conditions, thereby making a decompression chamber near the dive site unnecessary. The changes affect recreational divers who rely on self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA) and dive at depths of 130 feet or less. The revision does not change requirements for other types of commercial divers. Go to www.OSHA.org for information about Dixie Divers, Inc.; Grant of Permanent Variance - 64:71242-71261
